The Quest

THE DISCMANCER

She cannot yet take to the skies, her bones are still growing, but every legend starts with a single roll.

The Seal

The Seal is the name we give to Trillium's growth plates, the soft, still-forming joints that must finish closing before she can safely leave the ground for a leaping catch. She is seven months old at the start of the quest, and her plates close around twelve to fourteen months, so the day she takes to the skies is roughly fourteen months in coming, and not a day sooner. This is no idle promise. The vets are the keepers of the Seal, and it is their word, not impatience, that decides when she is ready.

And so the Seal shapes the whole saga. Trillium can learn nearly everything else first. She binds spell after spell on the ground (the roller, the take, the spins, the threshold, the moving take, the drop) and even tastes the air with low, safe catches kept well within the Seal's limits. What she cannot yet do is jump for it. A days-until-flight clock begins to tick early, and the realm watches it slowly narrow.

That waiting is the heart of it. The Seal does not break on any schedule we choose: it breaks when her body is ready and the keepers say so. Her skill outruns her bones, and she must wait, and in the waiting the legend is made. Patiently, surely, every roll and spin carries her toward First Flight, the promised moment the Seal finally breaks and Trillium leaps for the disc for the first time.

The Three Season Map

The saga's three movements, from ground to sky.

Season I: Foundations

Roughly seven to ten months old. The beginning of everything: the first spells, the realm, and the figures who fill it. Trillium meets her quest and binds her first ground spells while the Seal is explained and the days-until-flight countdown begins. She earns her first low, safe taste of the sky, but no leaping yet, for the plates still hold. The Elder, Grimley, arrives, and the Council, the cats Mango and Olive, begins to stir and judge. Here the foundation is laid, and the long wait begins.

Season II: The Ascent

Roughly ten to thirteen months old. The climb. With the foundation laid, Trillium turns to strength and conditioning, building the body the Seal still guards, while the countdown to flight narrows. The realm widens, and more figures take their place within it. The Seal continues to hold, the wait grows taut, and First Flight comes into view as a promise drawing ever closer, still some way off.

Season III: First Flight

Roughly thirteen to fourteen months and beyond, vet-confirmed. The Seal finally breaks: the keepers give the word, and Trillium leaps for the disc for the first time. Everything Foundations built and The Ascent strengthened comes together in the one moment the whole saga has patiently awaited. First Flight, at last.

The First Season

The first season unfolds as three chapters across its first ninety days. In Chapter I, First Light (days 1 to 30), the hero, the quest, and the Seal are revealed, and the Elder arrives in the realm. In Chapter II, The Council Wakes (days 31 to 60), the world widens as the cats become the Council and the realm fills out. In Chapter III, The Kingdom and First Flight (days 61 to 90), the full realm comes together, and the truth holds firm: her skill is ready, but her body is not, so the keepers say "not yet," and the wait carries on into The Ascent.
